Rovaniemi in Early December
Early December is an ideal date to travel to Lapland and enjoy the best activities and live extraordinary experiences, in which the traveler becomes the main actor of the trip enjoying spectacular activities in first person.
Rovaniemi is the administrative capital of Lapland and the main airport. It had to be rebuilt after World War II by the prestigious Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, who drew the silhouette of a reindeer's horns on the plans and built the network of streets on it. It is a modest but functional city, adapted to the Arctic climate. Perhaps the highlight of the Lapland trip to Rovaniemi is the home and office in the Arctic Circle of Santa Claus. For the little ones, just 6km from the city of Rovaniemi is Santa Park, a small Christmas theme park built entirely inside a mountain (the city's old bomb shelter) in the Arctic Circle. For ski lovers, just 3 km from Rovaniemi we find the “Ounasvaara” Ski Resort, a small station located on the hill of the same name. It has 5 slopes, special slopes for children and for snowboards. With a capacity of its ski lifts of 3700 people/hour. Although without a doubt, one of the greatest charms of Rovaniemi and of traveling to Lapland is the visit to the Santa Claus Village. Open 365 days a year where we can visit and even talk with him every day of the year. Just 1km from the airport and 6km from Rovaniemi, we find the permanent home of Santa Claus, where the magical imaginary line of the Arctic Circle also passes. Santa Claus Village is freely accessible, with regular bus lines connecting to Rovaniemi. Santa Claus Village is a beautiful and themed shopping center with houses made of wooden logs where we can buy typical crafts from the area, sweets and sweets or even eat in different restaurants. Of course there we will also find the post office and Santa's workshop, from his post office we can send postcards and letters with the official postmark and stamps of Santa Claus to anywhere in the world.
