Trip to Lapland - Salla, Early December 2023
Day 1. Madrid or Barcelona | Rovaniemi | Salla
At the indicated time, arrive at the airport with the assistance of our staff for the invoicing of the direct flight to Rovaniemi (Finland). Start your trip to Lapland here! Arrival at Rovaniemi airport. Assistance and transfer to Salla, located approximately 90 miles from the airport. Arrival in this white paradise where in 2021 the last national park in Finland was established. Salla is located in a fantastic natural environment, in one of the most virgin, intact and least populated areas in all of Europe where, due to its latitude, altitude and proximity to the Kola Peninsula (Russia), the first and heaviest snowfalls are usually received from Lapland. Accommodation in your cabin. All the cabins are very comfortable and cozy and have complete equipment to make your stay unforgettable; bathroom/s with shower, heating, own sauna, one or more rooms (see descriptions according to size and capacity), fireplace and kitchen equipped with fridge, microwave, etc. In addition, you will have at your disposal, free of charge, unlimited firewood for the fireplace and sledges for children. All of them are located around the complex's reception and restaurant. A few minutes walk from your private cabin is the small alpine ski resort of Salla, ideal both for skiers of all levels and to enjoy sliding on the sleds with the family. In your accommodation you will have the thermal suits of your size waiting for you to be able to use them from your arrival and throughout your stay. Day 2. Salla, Snowmobile Safari and Spa.
You have spent your first night in Lapland! After having a full buffet breakfast at the Kiela restaurant in the Salla Tuvat complex, we are going to live a unique experience riding powerful snowmobiles through snowy forests and frozen lakes. We will discover the sensation of having a coffee or hot chocolate in the middle of a bonfire contemplating the bucolic image of Lappish nature. All this having fully equipped ourselves against the cold and having received all the safety and handling instructions for the motorcycle (it is very simple) necessary to enjoy the activity. For the peace of mind of the parents, the little ones will enjoy the snowmobile safari in a sleigh pulled by the guides' motorcycles. After this unforgettable experience on our trip to Lapland, it is time for lunch that we will have prepared at the Kiela restaurant. To spend a Lappish afternoon, we recommend you enjoy skiing, since a few minutes walk we have the family alpine ski resort of Salla, with illuminated slopes. You can purchase the ski pass by the hour (from 1h), as well as the rental of equipment, a great experience for lovers of this sport with fantastic snow making the most of the time since there are no queues in the ski lifts. For today's afternoon, after a day full of great moments, you can enjoy the hotel's Spa next to the cabin complex and relax in its jacuzzis and pools (4) with water jets and saunas (admission included). Where you can enjoy it as a family, since both children and adults are allowed to enter and you can walk from the cabin. It is essential to wear a swimsuit and slippers, although if you forget in the excitement of the day, don't worry... you can rent a swimsuit there. Dinner today will be at the Kiela restaurant, in our cabin complex. Here you will dine in a cozy and casual atmosphere. The restaurant is a member of the "Chaîne des Rôtisseurs", a renowned French gastronomic society that nurtures and supports local food culture and pays homage to the national cuisine. In 2008 Kiela restaurant was awarded their Seal of Excellence in recognition of the high quality of food and service. Maybe on the way to your cabin you can see a northern lights.
Day 3. Salla. Huskies Sledding, Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing, Movies & Great Lappish Dinner in Kota
We continue to enjoy the destination and unique activities. After a powerful and necessary buffet breakfast, served in the complex's restaurant, we will start one of the most exciting excursions of our trip; a dog sled ride. Although most of the dogs are husky breeds, you can find other trained and expert dogs to pull the sleds, which they do with great pleasure. When the time comes and after receiving the advice to enjoy the experience safely, we will become master mushers of an authentic husky dog sled. Of course, driving a husky sled through the snowy forests of Salla is one of the best experiences you can have on a trip to Lapland. Today we will have lunch like authentic locals, a good hot soup and grilled sausages around a bonfire in the middle of the forest to continue with the traditions of the land: we will take a snowshoe safari through the snowy Lappish forest until we reach a frozen lake where we can try our luck practicing ice fishing. After a day of new experiences, you will return to your accommodation, where you can rest and enjoy an authentic Finnish sauna in our private cabin. An afternoon of movies and popcorn awaits us, which begins on board a Lappish train, in which the wagons are sleighs and the locomotive is a snowmobile, to lead us to the auditorium (about 1.5 miles from the Kiela restaurant) where a film for everyone will be shown the public that will discover a magical world. Continuing with our Lappish day, at dinner time, we will move to a wooden kota to taste a very special dinner, based on rich local products from nearby. During the evening, our hosts will tell us old stories and local shaman traditions... An unforgettable dinner in a unique setting. Return to our cabin to rest and recover energy for the next day.
Day 4. Reindeer sleigh, mini snowmobiles and exciting private meeting with Santa Claus.
A new day dawns in Lapland full of unique moments and activities. After a hearty breakfast buffet, we will head to the nearby reindeer farm to learn about the reindeer way of life and take a relaxing ride on a reindeer sleigh through the snowy forest. During the activity, we will visit the corral where the females that are pregnant during the winter are found, as well as some calves that are not yet old enough to pull the sleds. We can feed them by hand and have an incredible time with them. We will enjoy lunch in a “kota”, which is a typical Lappish tent similar in shape to American Indian teepees or tents. You will have the opportunity to rest in your cabin and prepare for one of the great moments of the trip that the little ones and those who are not so much are waiting for... Privately, family by family, we will travel on a snow sled carried by a motorcycle guide to a magical place in the middle of the forest in search of Santa Claus. We will meet Santa Claus himself, we will be able to talk with him, take pictures... and enjoy a magical encounter. Our dear friend, Santa Claus, will thank our visit by delivering a gift to each child. So that the little ones are entertained until the moment we start our meeting with Santa, they will have at their disposal several recreational activities such as sleighs and snow slides, one of them being the possibility of driving small snowmobiles on a safe circuit. With so many emotions, surely we have whetted our appetite. Tonight we will taste dinner at the Kiela restaurant. Return to our cabin after a day of magical experiences to rest.
Day 5 Sala | Rovaniemi | Madrid or Barcelona
Last day in Lappish lands. After enjoying the buffet breakfast at the Kiela restaurant, we will head to Rovaniemi. Arrival at Santa Claus Village, located just above the imaginary and magical line of the Arctic Circle, where we can visit its craft and souvenir shops, send a letter or postcard from the official Santa Claus Post Office and visit the different attractions who are part of this magical world. With this visit we will be able to put the finishing touch to this dream trip. Continuation to the airport, located less than 1.5 miles from the Santa Claus Village. Billing procedures for our direct flight to Spain. During the flight we will enjoy a snack-dinner on board with a drink included. Arrival and end of the trip.
