Under the Northern Lights

Saariselkä, a municipality that is located more than 120 miles north of the Arctic Circle, in a privileged natural environment, is the white paradise of Lapland. Its hills show us an unmistakable arctic landscape, surrounded by great frozen lakes and a multitude of snow-covered forests. A short distance away we find the alpine ski resort of Saariselkä, perfect for skiers of any level. The Northern Lights Village is located in the surroundings of Saariselkä, in a privileged natural enclave surrounded by the virgin and untouched nature of Lapland. A perfect place to explore on a snowmobile, ride a husky or reindeer sleigh... or just relax in the sauna. With a bit of luck we will be able to admire the spectacular Aurora Borealis from our own accommodation. Day 1. Ivalo

Departure flight to Ivalo. Arrival at the airport and transfer by regular bus to Saariselka (18 miles). Arrival at the Northern Lights Village, specially designed to enjoy the phenomenon of the Northern Lights. Dinner and accommodation.

Days 2 to 4. Saariselka

Half pension. Free days to enjoy the area. Possibility of doing optional activities in the same accommodation. Dinner and accommodation.

• Snowmobiles - 2 hours
  • On the snowmobile safari you will begin to see and understand Lapland's nature during winter. Breathtakingly beautiful scenery of rolling hills, powdery snowdrifts and trees that lean under the weight of snow line your route that takes you comfortably away from the bustle of Saariselkä. Along the way, we stop to take pictures of the beautiful scenery and enjoy a hot drink. All snowmobile safaris include an introduction to safe driving as well as an experienced guide. The children travel in a sleigh towed by the guide.

  • Drill a hole through the ice and see if you can catch a white fish on an ice-covered lake. The snowmobile safari takes you through forests and hills, passing through beautiful scenery. In the lake we will try our luck fishing. We will make a bonfire to drink something hot and try the fish we have caught. • Auroras camp next to a lake - 3 hours
  • An unforgettable evening, the roar of the fire and the spectacular dance of the northern lights await you at Aurora Camp, near a picturesque lake. Departure by bus. Along the way, we stop for photos at the rugged Lake Inari, believed to be the home of Ukko the Overgod by ancient Laplanders (he is the Finnish god of the sky, thunder, weather, and harvest. He is often seen I considered him the most important and powerful god…) From there, we moved to the Camp. Here, we warm up in a cozy cabin by the fire, enjoy a hot drink and prepare a traditional Lapland midnight snack while waiting for the Northern Lights to appear on the horizon.   • Snowmobile ride through the forest to get away from light pollution, up the slopes of the snowy mountains. We warm up by the fire under the starry sky and wait for luck and we can see a northern lights.

• Hunting for the Aurora Borealis with snowshoes - 2 hours
  • In the quiet forest, the only sound comes from the crunchy snow as you walk over it on your snowshoes. We will light a fire to have a hot drink and wait, if we are lucky, to see the Northern Lights. With any luck, we'll witness a magnificent spectacle as the billowing northern lights spread across the universe.

• In search of Santa Claus - 3  hours
  • The Finding Santa Excursion is a fun and unforgettable set of Christmas experiences for the young and young at heart, set in the Northern Lights Village. Santa's little helper, an elf, will meet you and other participating families and be your guide for the day. The day begins with gingerbread baked in the kitchen of the elves' grass house. After cookie time, the Elf will take you to meet Santa's flying reindeer. Unfortunately, the reindeer only fly on Christmas night, but you can take a (short) ride on the reindeer sleigh through the snowy forest. So, it's time to go find Santa's secret cabin. The elf on a snowmobile will take you on a heated sleigh ride through the woods. If you can find the cabin, chances are Santa will welcome you into your family for a private chat and offer you a token gift.
