Late November to Early December in Salla
This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a trip to Lapland in the days before the beginning of December. Travel to Lapland and discover the last paradise in Europe, staying in comfortable cabins and doing fun Arctic activities every day.
This year we were so excited for our trips to Lapland that we decided to start them off a bit earlier than usual. Join us the last week of November and be the first to visit this magical white paradise during this winter season. Staying in wonderful cabins and enjoying the best Arctic activities, such as sleigh rides pulled by huskies and reindeer, snowmobile tours, ice fishing... and most importantly, we will have a meeting with Santa Claus. Take advantage of this opportunity and come to know Lapland, a unique destination that will leave you wonderful memories for a lifetime.
Day 1. Madrid - Helsinki - Rovaniemi - Salla.
At the appointed time, meet at the airport with the assistance of our staff for the check-in of the Finnair regular flight to Rovaniemi (Finland), via Helsinki. You start your journey to Lapland here! Arrival at Rovaniemi airport. Assistance and transfer to Salla, located approximately 150 km from the airport. Arrival at this white paradise where the last national park of Finland was established in 2021. Salla is located in a fantastic natural environment, in one of the most pristine, untouched, and least populated areas in all of Europe where, due to its latitude, Lapland's first and heaviest snowfalls are usually received. Accommodation in your cabin. All cabins are very comfortable and cozy and have a complete equipment for an unforgettable stay; bathroom/s with shower, heating, own sauna, one or several rooms (see descriptions according to size and capacity at the end of the itinerary), fireplace, and equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave, etc. In addition, you will have at your disposal, free of charge, unlimited firewood for the fireplace and sledges for the children. All of them are located around the reception and the restaurant of the complex. A few minutes' walk from your private cabin is the small alpine ski resort of Salla, ideal for skiers of all levels as well as for family fun sliding on sledges. At our accommodation, we will have our thermal suits of our size waiting for us to use from our arrival and throughout our stay. Once settled and already equipped with the thermal clothing, dinner at the Kiela restaurant in the Salla Tuvat complex.
Day 2. Salla. Reindeer Sled Ride and Dinner in a Kota.
We spent our first night in Salla and after a hearty and necessary buffet breakfast served in the resort's restaurant, we will head to a nearby reindeer farm to learn about the reindeer way of life and take a relaxing sled ride through the snowy forest, pulled by a reindeer. During the activity, we will visit the corral where the pregnant females are kept during the winter, as well as some young calves who are not yet old enough to pull sleds. We will be able to feed them by hand and have an amazing time with them. We will enjoy lunch in a "kota," which is a typical Lappish tent with a similar shape to teepees or Native American tents. The rest of the afternoon is free. Continuing our Lapland day, at dinner time we will be transferred to a wooden kota to enjoy a very special dinner consisting of delicious local products. During the evening, our hosts will tell us old stories and local shamanic traditions... An unforgettable dinner in a unique setting. Return to our cabin to rest and recharge for the next day.
Day 3. Salla. Husky sleigh ride, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and cinema.
We continue to enjoy our destination and unique activities. After a powerful and necessary buffet breakfast served at the resort's restaurant, we will embark on one of the most exciting excursions of our trip: a husky sleigh ride. While most of the dogs are of the husky breed, other breeds are also trained and expert in pulling sleds, which they do eagerly. Once we receive the advice to enjoy the experience safely, we will become master mushers of an authentic husky dog sled. Driving a husky sled through the snowy forests of Salla is certainly one of the best experiences one can have on a trip to Lapland. Today we will have a local lunch of hot soup and grilled sausages around a bonfire in the middle of the forest to continue with local traditions: we will take a snowshoe hike through the snowy Lapland forest to reach a frozen lake where we can try our luck at ice fishing. After a day of new experiences, we will return to our accommodation, where we can rest and enjoy an authentic Finnish sauna in our private cabin. We have an evening of cinema and popcorn ahead of us, starting aboard a Lapland train, where the wagons are sleds and the locomotive is a snowmobile, to take us to the auditorium (about 3km from the Kiela restaurant) where a film will be screened for all audiences that will reveal a magical world. Tonight we will enjoy dinner at the Kiela restaurant in Salla Tuvat. We return to our cabin to rest and replenish our energy for the next day.
Day 4. Salla. Snowmobile safari.
A new day in Lapland dawns, full of unique moments and activities. After having a complete buffet breakfast at the Kiela restaurant in the Salla Tuvat complex, we will have a unique experience riding powerful snowmobiles through snowy forests and frozen lakes. We will discover the feeling of having a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in the middle of a bonfire while contemplating the picturesque image of Lapland's nature. We will be fully equipped against the cold and will have received all the necessary safety and snowmobile handling instructions (which is very simple) to enjoy the activity to the fullest. For the peace of mind of parents, younger children will enjoy the snowmobile safari in a sled pulled by the guides' snowmobiles. After this unforgettable experience on our trip to Lapland, it's time for lunch, which will be prepared at the Kiela restaurant. To spend a Lapland afternoon, we recommend skiing. A few minutes' walk away is the Salla family alpine ski resort, with illuminated slopes. We can purchase a ski pass for hours (starting from 1 hour), as well as rent equipment. It's a great experience for ski enthusiasts with fantastic snow conditions and maximum time utilization as there are no queues at the lifts. Tonight's dinner will be at the Kiela restaurant in our cabin complex. Here you will dine in a cozy and casual atmosphere. The restaurant is a member of "Chaîne des Rôtisseurs", a renowned French gastronomic society that nurtures and supports local food culture and pays tribute to national cuisine. In 2008, the restaurant Kiela was awarded the society's seal of excellence in recognition of the high quality of food and service.
Day 5. Salla. Children's Multi-Activities, Mini Snowmobiles, Private Meeting with Santa Claus, and Spa.
After a good buffet breakfast, we will head to a nearby reindeer farm (just 5 minutes from our cabins) where we will enjoy fun snow activities for the whole family, such as snowshoeing, Lappish lasso throwing, snow hockey, feeding the reindeer, and taking a small ride in a sleigh. One of the activities will be the opportunity to drive mini snowmobiles on a safe circuit. While having fun in this environment, we will wait for a call from an elf who will lead us on a sled pulled by a snowmobile to a secret location in the middle of the forest where Santa Claus is waiting for us. Privately, family by family, we will be taken by a guide's snowmobile-driven sled to a magical location in the forest to meet Santa Claus in person, talk to him, take photos, and enjoy a magical encounter. Our dear friend, Santa Claus, will thank us for our visit by giving each child a gift. After the excitement of this morning, it's the ideal time to relax before dinner at the hotel's spa and enjoy its hot tubs, heated pools with water jets, and saunas. It's perfect for the whole family to relax and have fun since admission is included and allowed for both adults and children, and it's within walking distance from the cabin. It's essential to bring swimwear and slippers, but if you forget with all the excitement of the day, don't worry… swimwear can be rented there. With so much excitement, we're sure we've worked up an appetite. Tonight, we'll enjoy dinner at the Kiela restaurant in Salla Tuvat. After a day of magical experiences, we'll return to our cabin to rest.
Day 6 Salla - Rovaniemi - Madrid.
Last day in Lapland. After enjoying the breakfast buffet at the Kiela restaurant, we will make our way to Rovaniemi. Upon arrival, we will visit the Santa Claus Village, located right on the imaginary and magical line of the Arctic Circle, where we can explore its handicraft and souvenir shops, send a letter or postcard from Santa's official Post Office, and visit the different attractions that make up this magical world.
