Pre-Christmas in Salla
Take advantage of this magnificent offer to travel to Lapland and feel the magic of the days before Christmas. A very complete program staying in comfortable cabins and doing the best excursions and arctic activities. Snowmobiles, reindeer, huskies... and the icing on the cake, a private meeting with Santa Claus in Salla.
When planning your trip to Lapland, Salla is always one of the top choices. Its location in northeastern Finland, just a few kilometers from the Oulanka National Park and its almost untouched natural surroundings, make it a spectacular destination. Thanks to its latitude, Lapland is one of the places where snow arrives first. According to a study over the last 30 years, there is usually snow from mid-October to mid-May, approximately 200 days. It is a magical destination with a comprehensive and varied program of Arctic activities that will not leave anyone indifferent, both young and old. #traveltoLapland.

Arrive at this white paradise where in 2021 the last national park in Finland was established. Salla is located in a fantastic natural environment, in one of the most pristine, untouched, and sparsely populated areas of all of Europe, where, due to its latitude, the first and heaviest snowfalls in Lapland are often received. Accommodation in your cabin. Day 2 Salla. Reindeer Sled Ride and Dinner in a Kota
We have spent our first night in Salla and after a hearty and necessary buffet breakfast served in the resort's restaurant, we will head to the nearby reindeer farm to learn about the reindeer way of life and take a relaxing sled ride through the snowy forest pulled by a reindeer. During the activity, we will visit the corral where pregnant females spend the winter and some young ones that are not yet old enough to pull the sleds. We will be able to feed them by hand and spend an amazing time with them. We will enjoy lunch in a "kota", which is a typical Lappish tent similar in shape to teepees or American Indian tents. Rest of the afternoon free. Continuing with our Lapland day, for dinner we will be transferred to a wooden kota to enjoy a very special meal based on rich local products. During the evening, our hosts will tell us old stories and local traditions of shamans... An unforgettable dinner in a unique environment. Return to our cabin to rest and recharge for the next day.
Day 3. Salla. Husky sleigh ride, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and cinema
We continue to enjoy the unique activities of our destination. After a powerful and necessary buffet breakfast served at the resort's restaurant, we will begin one of the most exciting excursions of our trip: a husky sleigh ride. Although most of the dogs are huskies, there are other breeds that are also expertly trained to pull sleds, which they do with pleasure. When the time comes and after receiving advice on how to safely enjoy the experience, we will become master mushers of an authentic team of husky sled dogs. Driving a husky sled through the snowy forests of Salla is certainly one of the best experiences one can have on a trip to Lapland. Today, we will have lunch like true locals, with a hot soup and grilled sausages around a bonfire in the middle of the forest, to continue with local traditions: we will take a snowshoe hike through the snowy Lapland forest until we reach a frozen lake where we can try our luck at ice fishing. After a day of new experiences, we will return to our accommodation, where we can relax and enjoy an authentic Finnish sauna in our private cabin. We have a movie and popcorn evening ahead, starting aboard a Lapland train, where the cars are sleds and the locomotive is a snowmobile, which will take us to the auditorium (about 3km from the Kiela restaurant) where a film for all ages will be shown, revealing a magical world. Tonight, we will enjoy dinner at the Kiela restaurant in Salla Tuvat. We will return to our cabin to rest and recharge for the next day.
Day 4. Salla. Oulanka National Park
After breakfast, we will depart by coach to Oulanka National Park. Upon arrival, we will visit the Visitor Center of Oulanka National Park where we can explore a new exhibition about nature and wildlife. Then we will take a walk of approximately 1 kilometer to see the most beautiful and photographed rapids of Kiutaköngäs. Next, we will find a place for a pleasant and warm lunch at the Basecamp Oulanka. With our stomachs full, it is nice to take a short walk of 500 meters to the rapid area where there is an old mill and a suspension bridge over the water. We will have the opportunity to take beautiful photographs and relax listening to the roar of the Kitkajoki river. On the way back to Salla, it is possible to stop to see more white-throated dippers near the Käylä bridges. We will return to our accommodation where we will have free time to relax and enjoy a Finnish sauna before dinner. Dinner will be served at the restaurant Kiela.
Day 5. Salla. Snowmobile Safari
A new day in Lapland dawns, full of unique moments and activities. After enjoying a full buffet breakfast at the Kiela restaurant in the Salla Tuvat resort, we'll live a unique experience riding powerful snowmobiles through snowy forests and frozen lakes. We'll discover the feeling of having a hot coffee or chocolate in the middle of a bonfire while contemplating the bucolic image of Lapland's nature. We'll be fully equipped against the cold and have received all the necessary safety and snowmobile handling instructions (it's very simple) to enjoy the activity. For the peace of mind of the parents, the little ones will enjoy the snowmobile safari in a sled pulled by the guides' snowmobiles. After this unforgettable experience on our trip to Lapland, it's time for lunch, which will be prepared for us at the Kiela restaurant. To spend a Lapland afternoon, we recommend enjoying skiing, as we have the Salla family alpine ski resort just a few minutes' walk away, with illuminated slopes. We can purchase the ski pass by the hour (from 1 hour) as well as rent equipment, a great experience for lovers of this sport with fantastic snow, making the most of the time since there are no queues at the lifts. Tonight's dinner will be at the Kiela restaurant in our cabin complex. You'll dine in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is a member of the "Chaîne des Rôtisseurs," a renowned French gastronomic society that nurtures and supports local food culture and pays homage to national cuisine. In 2008, the Kiela restaurant was awarded their seal of excellence in recognition of the high quality of the food and service.
Day 6. Salla. Children's Multi-Activities, Mini Snowmobiles, Private Meeting with Santa Claus, and Spa
After a good buffet breakfast, we'll head to the nearby reindeer farm (just 5 minutes from our cabins) where we'll enjoy fun snow activities for the whole family: snowshoeing, Lappish lasso throwing, snow hockey, feeding the reindeer, and taking a short ride on a sled, including the possibility of driving small snowmobiles on a safe circuit. While having fun in this environment, we'll be waiting for a call from an elf who will take us on a sled pulled by a snowmobile to a secret location in the middle of the forest where Santa Claus is waiting for us. Privately, family by family, we'll be transported on a snowmobile sled driven by a guide to a magical place in the forest to meet Santa Claus in person, chat with him, take photos... and enjoy a magical encounter. Our beloved friend, Santa Claus, will thank us for our visit by giving each child a gift. After the morning's excitement, it's the ideal time to relax before dinner at the hotel's spa and enjoy its Jacuzzis, heated pools with water jets, and saunas. It's perfect for the whole family to relax and have fun, as admission is included and allowed for both adults and children, and it's within walking distance from the cabin. It's essential to bring swimwear and slippers, but if you forget with all the excitement of the day, don't worry...you can rent swimwear there. With so many emotions, we're sure we've worked up an appetite. Tonight, we'll savor dinner at the Kiela restaurant in Salla Tuvat. We'll return to our cabin after a day of magical experiences to rest.
Day 7. Salla - Rovaniemi - Madrid
Last day in Lapland. After enjoying the buffet breakfast at the Kiela restaurant, we will head to Rovaniemi. Arrival at Santa Claus Village, located right on the imaginary and magical line of the Arctic Circle, where we can visit its craft and souvenir shops, send a letter or postcard from Santa Claus's official Post Office, and visit the different attractions that are part of this magical world. With this visit, we will put the finishing touch to this dream trip. Continuing to the airport, located less than 3 km from Santa Claus Village. Check-in procedures for our direct flight to Madrid. Direct flight schedule (local time): Rovaniemi - Madrid 4:00 pm - 8:05 pm During the flight, we will enjoy a snack-dinner on board with drinks included. Arrival and end of the trip.
